TU exhibition text Safe Place 2022

Galerie Pugliese Levi is delighted to announce the second solo show by Hungarian artist Tünde Újszászi.

Safe Place presents recent paintings along with a series of ink drawings on paper. Repetition, as a soothing and meditative act, is the main focus of Újszászi’s work and the theme of this exhibition. Departing from the special weaving techniques and small foldings of previous installations, gestural repetitions take place here on canvas. Taming the passing of time and overcoming her fears remain Tünde Újszászi’s preoccupations, along with her original research on the medium and all its possible uses.

Repetition is safe. The reason why I always aspire to achieve it is because I’m afraid to immerse myself in the void.
(Tünde Újszászi)

Tünde Újszászi was born in 1987 in Hungary and currently lives and works in Tahitótfalu. She conducted her studies at the Moholy-Nagy University of Art and Design Budapest (MOME)and at the Aalto University in Helsinki.
Tünde Újszászi’s work was shown for the first time in Germany at Galerie Pugliese Levi on the occasion of her solo show Objects in 2019 and subsequently as part of the group exhibitions almost nothing (2019), Transparency (2020), one by one (2021) and The Spring Show (2022).

Her works were also featured in group exhibitions in Helsinki, Munich, Lugano and Guimarães and are part of private collections. One of her installations is part of the public collection of Contextile Biennial, Guimarães, Portugal.

This exhibition is accompanied by a catalogue.
