Artist Profile

Thibaut Duchenne was born in the French region of Picardy in 1966. After having completed his studies of agriculture he took over the family farm. At the age of 35 his father gave him a camera. From this decisive moment onwards, he started to accompany his daily labour on the farm with a photographic activity. Progressively his photographic work took him further away from the farm, always on the quest for places abandoned by humankind.

Thibaut Duchenne first exposed his work to an art audience in 2012, at the 57th edition of the Salon de Montrouge, where the art critic and curator Étienne Gatti first acknowledged his work.

His photographs have since been published and exhibited in a number of magazines and events, including L’Œil de la photographie, the Green Flowers Art Gallery, and the exhibitions Salon Photo off (2014, 5th edition, La Bellevilloise, Paris), Parti(e) du paysage by Galerie Simon Cau, Art is Hope at Galerie Perrotin (Paris, 2016), As You Like It -- C’est Comme Vous Voulez, Praz Delavallade (Los Angeles, 2018), D’un vide à l’autre, Septième Galerie (Paris, 2020).

His first two solo shows in Berlin at Galerie Pugliese Levi, Prise de Terre in 2017 and Solitude in 2018, have sparked considerable attention. A catalogue of the exhibition Prise de terre is available.
